This website is part of a comprehensive program to provide accessible cinema in Australia. This includes the funding of equipment and promotional support for 12 independent cinemas around the country, provided by the Federal Department of Health and Ageing.

First accessible 3D movie for UK audiences

Walt Disney’s A Christmas Carol will screen in 3D for UK audiences this weekend. As 3D technology for film is relatively new, this is a significant step where the accessible format has been introduced so soon after the technological development.

Accessible films for Sydney school kids

Major cinema chains apply for access complaint exemption

The Australian Human Rights Commission has received an application (linked in Word format) on behalf of Hoyts Corporation, Greater Union Organisation, Village Cinemas and Reading Cinemas for a Temporary Exemption under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 from complaints in relation to the provision of captions and audio description in their cinemas.
